Puppy Training: where strong foundations lead to lifetime habits

Get it right from the very start

So you’ve got a bundle of puppy love or an imminent arrival of four tiny paws ahead, congratulations!

I’m sure you have visions of lovely long walks together, afternoons in the pub with them curled up at your feet, and a companion that’ll make your life complete.

But first, you’ve got to crack that toilet training, handle those bitey shark teeth, and keep your sanity and your furnishings intact.

Your little bundle of adorable trouble is prime for learning, so let’s get those good habits formed right from the very beginning.

Get a puppy, they said; it’ll be fun, they said….

Puppies are fun! Of course, they are! But they can also be a bit of a handful and tricky to understand at times.

As they go through normal developmental stages, your puppy’s needs change, and you can be left feeling confused as you’re met with curveball after curveball.

Regressions are natural in your training, especially during the puppy and adolescent stages, but with the right support, you’ll understand your pup and be able to guide them confidently.

I offer 1-2-1 puppy training, group puppy classes and adolescent training for when those teenage growing pains and hormones set in.

Prepare to feel more confident, informed and ready for an incredible journey with your puppy.

Puppy Training Classes – Life skills for a happy dog

My six-week puppy training classes are designed to lay solid foundations for both you and your puppy. You’ll learn how to use positive dog training to teach your puppy life skills that’ll serve you in good stead for a lifetime of happiness together.

All classes are kept to a maximum of four participants so that you get the chance to mix with other owners and dogs safely and get plenty of 1-2-1 support.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to toilet train your puppy so your feet stay clean and dry
  • How to handle mouthing and biting so your hands stay in one piece
  • How to teach your puppy not to jump up, so your friends still want to come over
  • How to teach your puppy to walk nicely on the lead, so you only get a bicep workout when you want one
  • How to teach your puppy to come back when called, so they can enjoy their freedom
  • How to teach your puppy to settle so they have a reliable off-switch when it’s chill time
  • How to socialise your puppy safely, so they develop good manners and can play freely
  • How to teach a reliable drop, so you can get your stuff back and avoid danger

You’ll also learn the underrated skill of reading your dog’s body language. Honestly, this is life-changing. Suddenly, you’ll not only understand your dog, but every dog you meet. Setting you up for safe interactions and fantastic communication with your dog for life.

All of our training is undertaken using positive dog training techniques so that your dog is gifted an inspiring relationship with training that’s motivating and happiness-inducing.

BONUS: To support your learning, I include access to our online tutorials. These are arranged in accordance with the course content, so you can refer to these and watch the exercises as many times as you need to. Plus, share them with other family members, so everyone’s singing from the same hymn sheet.

We joined Pippin Pets dog training when Millie turned 10 weeks old, 2 weeks after we got her.

The training has not only helped us with the initial training to base the rest of her training on as she grows, but we have also learnt so much about how to look after her, tips and tricks with feeding, toys and games, and we have gained confidence along the way to know that we are doing everything in the right way, being the best puppy parents we can be!

Jo has been really helpful with all of our questions and worries. She tailored the course each week to what we needed as a group, ensuring we get what we need out of the course.

We hope to use Pippin Pets again in the future and would recommend Jo to any new puppy parents who want to ensure they are getting it right.

Adore Your Adolescent Dog Training Classes

Oh teens, aren’t they just adorable?!

If your puppy’s recall has gone out the window, or they’re suddenly showing signs of fear, then please rest assured this is a normal part of their development.

Hormones are raging, confidence is either growing or wavering, and they’re contending with a lot internally.

This is the period in a dog’s life when many owners experience regret, feelings of despair and sometimes the desire to rehome their dog.

But you’ve got this! This phase won’t last forever, and with tailored guidance to help your puppy through, you’ll be back on track in no time.

What you’ll learn:

  • Focus is the name of the game – so your dog is reliably able to handle distractions and look to you for direction
  • How to reinforce and progress your training in new environments and trickier situations for a bulletproof dog
  • How to strengthen your relationship, so your dog turns to you when they’re unsure
  • How to get and hold your dog’s attention without fail, whenever you need to
  • Fun games and tricks to inject the joy back into dog training, and your relationship

Our adolescent training classes are suitable for dogs between 6 and 18 months. Classes are kept to a maximum of 4 dogs so your dog can FOCUS and get results, and you can get some individual support on whatever is most difficult for you right now.

We came back to Jo to do the adolescent course with our 8 month old puppy. Every class helped us further his training with lots of constructive strategies and games.

Jo always made time to explain how the adolescent changes will influence a dog’s behaviour. As first-time dog owners, we found Jo’s approach very informative and reassuring.

We wouldn’t have been able to get where we are without her. Her focus on encouraging positive behaviours has really helped our puppy grow more confident and focused on us.

Having had a Cairn Terrier before, I knew there could be a challenge to train! So when my nine week old puppy arrived, I soon realised I needed help.

Jo was just the help we needed. I cannot drive so dog training was always going to need to be local. What’s more local than training coming to your home? Brilliant!

My dog and I were on familiar ground and Jo could see the behaviour that I needed help with (mine and the puppies!)

We had five tailored sessions which included the basics of recall and attention along with other fun stuff. The plan I have now is to go back to develop training so that I am my young dog are better equipped to be responsible and polite in public.

I recommend you give Pippin Pets a go!
