Stairgates are fantastic at providing a barrier in our homes to keep our dogs safe, whilst still allowing them to see and smell what is going on the other side. But not all homes can fit a standard gate.

Let me introduce you to the Dog-G8

I do love a product that makes our lives easier, and the Dog-G8 doesn’t disappoint.

But what is it?

Imagine being able to use a stairgate that folds away tiny when not in use, and then think about one that provides a barrier across your opening door so you can receive parcels etc safe in the knowledge that your dog cannot escape into the street.

The Dog-G8 meets all these requirements.

Useful for motorhomes/caravans, front doors, stairs and hallways, especially if you do not have the ‘swing’ space for the more traditional stairgates. It does fix to the wall/door, but that means that you don’t have that trip hazard of a bar that you always stub your toe on.

I already have a pet gate across my hallway so my dog cannot get to the front door (only had one escape moment as a puppy and never again!), so this gate is perfect for the top of the stairs.  My landing is not big, so a normal gate would not work as there is nowhere safe for the metalwork to be when open.

During the night, my girl could run up and down the stairs barking if she heard noises outside, so having this across the top of the stairs stops all this noise. Now, she can go onto the landing but not be charging around the house waking up the neighbours.

But I have recommended this product to many clients who want the security of opening their front door without the fear of their dog rushing out. Many aren’t able to have a gate in the hallway due to the configuration of the doors and space, and keeping a dog behind a closed door can increase their frustration and noise levels.

The Dog-G8 fits between the door and the jamb, and opens up as you open the door. But of course there is a super easy lift bar so you can get in and out as well.

When not in use, it folds flat in a concertina, taking up minimal space in your hallway.

If you travel in a motorhome or caravan with your dog, then this is ideal as you can use the gate across the doorway, and then keep the door open for fresh airflow without your dog running across the park seeking picnics from the other campers!

It is not the cheapest stairgate on the market, but it is probably the most versatile.

It arrived in a slimline box – I much prefer packaging that is not oversized. The gate is in bubblewrap to protect it, but no excessive waste packaging is used.

The instructions are super clear too – even for a DIY-phobe like me.  There are details on how to use the sticky pads on UPVC doors, and screws to add to wood frames.

As my house is rather old, I did need rawl plugs to drill into the crumbling walls, but once it was up, it is solid and stays in place.

The gate looks stylish too, and is available in silver or white.  They have standard sizes, but you can also buy extension panels and therefore it can fit any size gap or doorway in your home.

(yes, I do need to decorate the hallway and stairs!!)

This is such a great design, and a gate that is so much more flexible than your standard babygates.

Need a barrier in your home whatever the space you have?  Then get a Dog-G8.
